I tried—and returned—a popular Pioneer drive that gets a lot of love so that I could encode some of my Blu-rays. . It mounted... some of the time. It wasn’t worth the hassle of connecting and reconnecting it to get it to work. So I decided to try this presumably more-Mac-friendly drive and have been very pleased. It mounts every time, is (relatively) quiet, and hasn’t failed me yet.

Don’t let the USB2 connector worry you; I don’t notice it to be slower than the USB3 on the Pioneer—I believe the speed specs are, in fact, identical.
Don’t expect Apple or LaCie-level industrial design... this is bare bones. Of course, the Pioneer wasn’t much better looking, to be honest..
Highly recommended if you just want to read Blu-ray disks anddon’t need BD writing.
