I have a mid 2010 27' iMac, and I use Aperture for my photos.
- Shop Best Buy for memory card readers or memory card adapters that work with your type of memory card.
- Connect the SD card adapter to your computer by using an external card reader. Also note – Mac OS 10.6.5 or earlier does not support exFAT format, which most 64 GB SD cards are formatted to. This means that you won't be able to format or use exFAT card on your computer.
Plug the SD card reader's USB cable into a USB port on the Mac. Step Launch the Disk Utility program by double-clicking its icon inside of the 'Utility' folder which can be found inside of the 'Applications' folder.
Recently it has stopped reading SD cards from my camera (Canon EOS600D) via the SD card slot.
I have re-formatted the card via the camera but wiht no success.
What else is weird that it won't even see the card via an external SD card reader, and yet the camera has no problems saving photos onto the card and playing them back from the card.
The only way I can get the photos off of the card is to connect the camera via USB to the iMac, and then Aperture sees the pictures on the card fine, and imports them.

Can anyone suggest what the problem might be here - it's driving me nuts. 😉
